Fiestas

It’s spring break here in Tucson, Arizona. It’s been spring break all week (naturally, I suppose) and it has been great. I’ve been trying to get through the Aristotle on my reading list and, while I don’t think I’ll be able to get through all of it, I have definitely knocked out a large portion of it…and that makes me happy. Beyond this, there has been a lot of time spent relaxing and spending time with friends. A lovely way to spend a week.

Speaking of hanging out and spending time with friends….today is going to be fun. We’re having a Mexican Fiesta in honor of St. Patty’s day (because we all know that Mexican food is far far better than Irish.). On the menu:
Chicken mole*
Tortilla soup
Calabacitas*
Homemade beans and rice
Horchata
Chile brownie bites with cinnamon ice cream
Mango sorbet*
Oh, and margaritas. Naturally, there will be margaritas.

(* Not actually the recipe I’m using.)

There are other things being made by other people (a delicious pozole, Jake’s yummy salsa, a chili cheese dip, homemade tortilla chips). Today will be a day of excess, methinks. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. No, in fact, it’s a damned good thing.

Speaking of the Aristotle reading list, I’ve come to the decision that Miles Burnyeat rocks. Wow does he rock. Not only is “Aristotle on Understanding Knowledge” a superb article that anyone should read, but he wrote one of the best first (two) sentences ever. This is in his article “The Origins of Non-Deductive Inference”:

God, as we know, did not leave it to Aristotle to make men rational. But he did leave it to Aristotle to make philosophers take account of the fact that there is more to men’s rationality than the ability to construct syllogisms.

What a great beginning to an article. I’ve yet to read the article (this is scheduled for tomorrow, along with Kahn’s article on Posterior Analytics 2.19) so I’ll report back after having read (and surely enjoying) it.

Everything else is going well, too. The cats are lovely, as always. Dusty’s still not a fan of Adele, but I still have hope that they’ll eventually get along. There has finally been rain…which is a relief. Winter has come a bit late to Tucson – it’s actually pretty chilly (a high of only 55 on Sunday!) and rainy with snow up on the Rincon mountains. Lovely. :-)

OK…that’s it. I have go clean house. And cook Mexican food. Mmm.

Sounds yummy!!!! I hope it was as good as it sounds. But I still say there’s nothing wrong with a good Corned Beef & Cabbage (and potatoes) meal (which, we had last night). Talk about comfort food! ;) Not that there’s anything wrong with Mexican…. but nothing like Corned Beef & Cabbage on a cold, windy winter day like yesterday was for us. ;)

Hope you and all your friends had a blast, sounds like a good time. And Dad told me that he finally got to try a margarita while he was down there…. Had to laugh because he and I certainly agree with each other on margaritas, and neither of us quite agree with you. LOL

Give the kitties snuggles from their Aunt Kati. (I’m trying to talk Scott testing himself with cats. If his allergies have greatly diminished with him quitting smoking -other friends have said they do-, that would mean I could get a kitty now. Anyway….)
